Pathway 5

Pathway 5 Curriculum

Intent

P5 is a Key Stage 4 pathway for students who require a more supportive curriculum, particularly around their social and emotional needs or for those students whose aspirations are more vocational in nature.

There is a core focus within the curriculum on personal development and establishing the social emotional skills that students will need as part of society. Developing these skills alongside accreditation, focussed within core subjects is intended to enable students to successfully transition into either further study or the workplace at Post 16.

Students within P5 often have deep rooted negative perceptions of school and education, so there is a significant focus within the curriculum design in making learning relevant to them, their interests and aspirations.

Implementation

This pathway is led by the lead teacher for PSHE who ensures the adoption of a trauma informed and nurturing approach to the group, supporting the breaking down of barriers to accessing education that many of these students have.

Academic subjects are delivered by subject specialists; a significant proportion of the personal development based sessions are delivered by tutors, enabling the formation of strong, positive relationships and frequent opportunity for review, reflection and reinforcement to enable the development of more positive engagement.

Elements of the curriculum are personalised to individual aspirations and ability to ensure relevance, for example access to extended work placements to develop employability skills will be considered when appropriate for a students level of social and emotional development.
