Sport and PE at the Bridge

The Sport and PE lessons The Bridge are mainly taught in 2 groups, which are Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the group size ranging between 2 and 6 pupils. Sometimes pupils have lessons on an individual basis with PE staff and this allows more specialised coaching or allows them to study a qualification in PE/Sport, such as GCSE PE.

Due to the fact that the groups are small, the range of sports are slightly different to the sports offered in main stream schools. These include the following;

  • Racket ball and Squash
  • Badminton
  • Golf
  • Fitness Training (Gym)
  • Boxing
  • Crown Green Bowling
  • Tennis
  • Football (5 aside)
  • Basketball

Most pupils enjoy the new range of sports and, especially in Key Stage 4, they may specialise in a sporting area if they wish to. They are also encouraged to continue these activities outside of school and so links have been built up with local sports clubs and the Brio Leisure group.

In Key Stage 4, several students opt to study sport or PE at GCSE or BTEC Sport level and in this case, these pupils, will have extra lessons in the week.

In all our sports lessons, the emphasis is on enjoyment and exercise, with an aim to educate students into a healthy lifestyle for the future.
