English is taught at both national curriculum key stage 3 and key stage 4 levels.

All students are assessed upon entry to identify their current working level and identify their areas for development. This helps us to tailor their education to their individual needs. Students are given subject specific targets to work towards each half term and this supports their continued progress.

Key Stage 3 students take part in project based work to develop their skills and prepare them for Functional Skill Exams.   Recent projects, have included Blood BrothersOur Day OutSeptember 11thStone Cold and All About Me.

Key Stage 4 students work towards the new AQA GCSE English Language qualification and/or the new AQA GCSE English Literacy qualification. Key Stage 4 students also work towards, and sit, Functional Skills Exams at the appropriate level.
